Creation of the Foundation

Deimann and Verstegen created the "WaterProject Nepal Foundation" in 2009 which was officially registered by notary Ypma in the Dutch town, Den Bosch.

The Board of committee consists of following persons and positions:

Dick Verstegen chairman-secretary
Hans van Dinther financial secretary
Ellen Deimann boardmember

The Board had one meeting in 2009, december the 14th.

A charity concert of the Vocal Quartet "In Dulci Jubilo" with the attendance of TNT-president Jeroen van den Bergh en his wife Nirmala.

Application of the ANBI-status (in order to obtain funds which are deductible from Dutch taxes)

Jeroen van den Bergh is coming to the Netherlands

Jeroen van den Bergh, director of The Nepal Trust in Kathmandu, is in the Netherlands.

Nepal Trust will implement our Water Project. For this reason we invited Jeroen to a meeting of the Board on thursday january the 7th in Nijmegen. If you wish to attend this board, you are of course welcomed.

The time may not be convenient to working people but unfortunately there is no alternative. There will be other moments and meetings in the future. If you are intending to come, please leave me (dick-at-waterprojectnepal.nl) a message and I will send you more information.

Immaterial Help

Financial help is always welcomed in the form of gifts. A gift can be unique (one payment) or have a structural feature (scheduled payments). A Dutch gift covering different years and officially recorded by a notary, is tax deductible.

Furthermore it is possible to "adopt a subproject". This means that someone, a club, a cooperation or enterprise is willing to invest into the realisation of a certain and specific part of the projectplan (for instance, a pipeline of one mile long, a water tank or water reservoir, latrines, one or more tapping places, ...).

Last but not least it is also possible to "adopt a project phase". This means that someone, a club, a cooperation or enterprise is willing to invest the necessary funds for 3 or 5 or 12 or ... project months.

Each donor and even organisations, clubs, enterprises can become "Friend of the Nepal Water Project".

What is it all about ? And what did we do until now?

On a journey in Nepal Dick Verstegen and Ellen Deimann reached the region of Kaskikot (near Pokhara) in 2007 and were immediately confronted with 3 villages (more than 10.000 inhabitants) struggling with a sorely lack of water.

Visiting Homs' parents both Ellen and Dick remarked how dreadful the situation is in that region in regards to the availability of drinkable water.
After some thoughts they played with the idea to do something about it and encountered Jeroen van den Bergh - an indian adopted son from Dutch foster parents - in Kathmandu who is still working in Nepal Trust. Nepal Trust is a NGO (non governamental organisation) specialised in waterprojects. Jeroen became director of Nepal Trust in Kathmandu from medio 2009 on.

The aim of Dick and Ellen is to provide drinkable water to the 3 above mentioned villages. Therefore they sponsored a first research (Kaskikot and Sarangkot) in order to obtain an answer to the question whether or not this project was doable. The photo just gives an impression of a meeting with responsibles in Sarangkot.

The parents of Hom live in Kaskikot, lying on top of a hill just north of Pokhara and between Sarangkot and Dhikur Pokari.

This photo shows the actual status of the pipelines which are damaged. You see two Brahmans (highest caste) making use of this damaged pipelines in order to clear some intestines of goats.

We made a first research on the spot in 2008 in collaboration with "the stakeholders" from the regio by means of interviews while visiting the area.

Due to our research report we sought the collaboration of a well respected non-governamental-organisation (NGO), Nepal Trust, stationed in Kathmandu and expert in the field of water management.

Nepal Trust made a feasibility study during 2 phases (one in 2008 and the last one during 2009). As outcomes of this study they concluded to the necessity of the implementation of this project and also that the project is reachable and doable. We provided the money necessary to finish this study.

Back to the Netherlands we immediately created a foundation "WaterProject Nepal" in order to realize this project in collaboration with Nepal Trust.

NB: the Dutch Foundation will provide the funds and Nepal Trust will provide the implementation.

The Nepal Trust research resulted, apart from professional reports, into a PowerPoint presentation and a film. Look for yourself and we hope it becomes obvious to you that this project has to be completed.

A plan has already been scheduled, foreseeing the implementation during the years of 2011 until 2014.

The costs are estimated approximately at € 450.000,--
